There’s always the one
who moves every year
starting over
selling herself to be
more popular each time

and then there’s the one
living in a fake family
with ashes and antiques
she gave it all away
a little too soon
everyone was sure
she’d be the one to try
and turn off the lights

and then there’s the one
who actually did
overdosed in the land of dreams
to wake up to
a shiny new reality

and then there’s
Miss daddy issue
Miss rebound boyfriend
knowing she’s pretty
pretending she doesn’t
who gets a little too skinny
just to get more attention

and then there’s the one
who writes his life away
hiding in his journals
closing off who he really is
and making himself
into one of his own characters

and then there’s the one
who lies on instinct
making up stories
because she doesn’t have a reason
to be as broken as she is
(or at least she can’t tell that one...)

and there’s always one
the secret genius
hiding behind his
vo-ed, don’t care, “I’m a loser”
attitude

and then there’s the girl
playing innocent and naive
reading her bible
and doing her homework
while the needles wait in her drawers
and naked pictures hide in her computer

and there’s always a coward
who would rather sit and stay quiet
than stand up for the others
when they need her the most

and the one who
draws her way into another world
hides behind her screaming music
pierces her face to be unique
talks to her demons
as though they’re her lovers

and then there’s that old saying
it really rings true
friends come in all
shapes, sizes...
